Sojan Joseph MP Quote:
“I am proud when I see the St George’s flag, or the Union flag being flown at the council buildings in Kent. However, I am equally proud whenever I see the flag of Ukraine being flown, as a mark of solidarity with the Ukrainian people in response to President Putin’s illegal invasion of their country.
It acts as a reminder that this country will always stand up to bullies and come to the aid of those who stand for democracy and freedom. I think it is shameful to remove it from the council chamber.
I sincerely hope the newly elected leader of the Council reflects on her crass comments regarding whether Ukrainians notice whether is there. Up until now there has been cross-party agreement in support of Ukraine, and it would be unfortunate for the new administration to put that support into doubt.”
At a national level, the Labour Government has been consistent that is absolutely committed to the sovereignty and security of Ukraine, something Mr Joseph stands firmly behind as he believes it is the right thing to do, and because it is vital for our national security.
