Press Release – Labour provides Kent County Council with £12,155,170 for brand new SEND service in Ashford, Hawkinge, and the Villages
Sojan Joseph, MP for Ashford, Hawkinge, and the Villages has today (15/04/2026) welcomed significant investment from the Labour government into local SEND provision. Kent County Council is to be allocated £12,155,170 to set up a new ‘Experts at Hand’ offer.
As announced in February’s Schools White Paper, the service is designed to provide children with early support and fast access to professionals like speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists. The offer will involve partnerships between special schools, alternative provision, and mainstream settings to put support in place without needing to go through lengthy assessment processes.Families in Kent have expressed concerns about long waits in the SEND system, which has led to issues escalating to crisis point before intervention. Labour’s reforms set out in the Schools White Paper, including the introduction of Experts at Hand, are designed to move support earlier in the process, closer to home, without parents having to fight for it.
The final guidance for Experts at Hand will be published next month, setting out how Kent County Council should use the funding to start standing up the service and the grant conditions associated with it.15/04/2026Read More -
Our Man in Westminster – East Kent Hospitals and the Intensive Recovery Programme – KentOnline
A new study by the Kings Fund and the Nuffield Trust has reported a 5.6% increase in
NHS satisfaction – the first increase since the coronavirus pandemic. This is the largest
decrease in patient dissatisfaction since 1998. Although there is a lot of work to do to
build an NHS fit for the future, this is a sign that things are progressing in the right
direction for patients. The Labour Government has invested £26 billion in the NHS and,
thanks to this and the hard work and dedication of NHS staff, waiting lists have fallen by
374,000 since the election in July 2024, and ambulance response times for category 2
this winter have been cut to the lowest in five years.08/04/2026Read More

Nigel Farage could disagree with himself in an empty room.
The comments by the President regarding Pope Leo are not befitting a head of state and are deeply offensive to Catholics around the world. Pope Leo is correct – the war in Iran is against international law, and we need to work towards peace in the region.
I’m proud of our UK Armed Forces, who left these Russian vessels with no doubt.
Their movements were not covert as Putin planned.
Their attempted secret operations were exposed.
And they have now retreated.
The two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran today is welcomed by the UK and our allies.
The goal now must be a lasting end to the war.
Alongside our international partners, the UK will work to ensure a return to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
