This Week (18th-24th November) is the Nationwide UK Parliament Week, an annual event to educate people about how the British Political System works. Last year over 1.6 million people took part in every nation and region of the UK, and many countries all over the world.
This year, UK Parliament Week is taking participants on the journey of a parliament, from State Opening to a general election, and all the ways they can connect with UK Parliament in between.
In recognition of the event, Sojan Joseph MP (Lab) has been holding events all across his Ashford Constituency, such as school visits and talks with young people who want to get more involved in politics.
Across the week, there have been 24 sign-ups to UK Parliament Week related events in the Ashford Constituency.
Sojan Joseph Quote:
“I am so pleased that there has been such a high uptake of people signing up to UK Parliament Week. It has been a pleasure meeting so many young who want to participate in politics – it is our duty as elected officials to engage with the next generation in the democratic process to ensure that they feel listened to and that the causes they care about do not go unheard. Sometimes Westminster can feel very detached, especially to our young people, and it’s events like UK Parliament Week, which can bring politics closer to home.”

This is my promise to British people:
Every area of our immigration system will be tightened up, so we have more control.
And migration numbers will fall.
